A Why’s Man Once Said… Call me Doctor.
Had a chance recently to catch up with Dr. Theodor Geisel… really interesting guy. Found out a few things:
1. He and I share a fascination with our mind’s authority. What I mean is…it is most often our own mind, not some external force, that singularly determines whether we see obstacle or opportunity. Some talk of limiting beliefs, some refer to the power of decision. But it all comes from one place… (That’s some heavy shit, eh.)
2. He’s not an actual doctor.
3. Apparently he’s been quite successful in his publishing career. He writes under the pen name of “Dr. Seuss”. Whatever…
Regardless of Mr. Geisel’s false credentials, here’s my takeaway from the conversation:
I close my eyes, and then I rise
Each morning then I realize
This shouldn’t come as much surprise
Some thoughts are lies, and shouldn’t fly
The lies are made in our mind’s eye
Internalized and misapplied
To stop our why’s and all they imply
To make sure that we never comply
That we never, ever, ever…reach the sky
Their claims are dry, they’re meant to pry
They choke us like a tight necktie
Big guy, small fry, wise guy, rabbi
They all hear lies that nullify
That stupify or stratify, our hopes, thoughts, beliefs and dreams…our true why’s
Well stand I say, and codify
Intensify and amplify
That which you choose to personify
You really have no alibi
For what you dream inside to rise
There are some things you must provide
First quantify, then multiply
Those thoughts of which exemplify
Your truth that must be purified
Your battle cry, your reason why
Please understand and listen nigh
I never over-simplify
I simply have identified
A force that needs declassified
It underlies our very lives
Unlocks all that we glorify
It beats the odds we dare defy
And moves us in ways that mystify
Oh come my passion, my urgent drive
And help me deliver to my children’s eyes
An example of how to realize
A life of purpose, where gratitude lies…in all we do, in abundant supply.
Please help me impress and fortify
Upon their young and growing minds
There’s nothing quite as powerful in life
As when we find our truest why.
And if you’re feeling Seussical (inspired even), here’s another post you might enjoy.
